The Lignum Lounge project is part of the International Terminal in the new Nassau International Airport in The Bahamas. The parameters of the project entailed a limited budget, 2 staff members, a calming design and a flexible layout allowing for a VIP area if needed. The concept for the design was derived from the cantilevering airplane seat tables. The idea was translated into an architectural language cantilevering table surfaces from planters, walls and bar tops throughout the space giving it an aerodynamic atmosphere. The bar design has the ability to be divided with sliding louvers separating the VIP area, while still being served by only one staff member. The cantilevering table surfaces along the bar area create ‘little terminals’ providing a more private bar experience for small groups while also adding more seating opportunities.
